Getting More from My Wardrobe Staples

You guys, I am so excited.  Behind the times as usual, but excited none the less.  Did you know that you can wear a maxi skirt as a dress?  Seriously, this is not a hard concept for most of you out there, I'm not sure why it has never occurred to me before.

Especially since when I wear it as a skirt I have to hike it up to my boobs anyway because I am so short.  With a little larger hike, skirt becomes dress.  Throw on a belt to give it shape, a cardigan to cover my voluptuousness and you get a great springy outfit.
Simple, comfy and I dare say cute as well.  Love.  I can see so many more possibilities with this wardrobe staple now.  Perhaps next time...maxi skirt turned midi skirt.  Oh will wonders never cease?!

Skirt/Dress:  Gap Factory Store
Cardigan:  Gap Factory Store
Belt:  Gap Factory Store
Shoes: Target
Necklace:  T&J Designs (but read this post first)

Question...should I start telling you where my stuff is from?  Do you care?  If you do want to know, then should I link it for you too?  Let me know guys, what do you think?

XO,
Alyssa

    1. Thank you Mary! One vote for links...after I posted that though I realized that Gap Outlet doesn't really have a site you can order from, and regular Gap has different merchandise! Oh well...we'll see how the vote goes.

  6. Really pretty, and it looks like it was meant to be. If you hadn't said, I wouldn't have known. As you show us so often, accessories are almost everything. Such great choices for your belt and shoes. I would not have thought to choose chunky deep tan pieces, but they work really well. And your little yellow necklace is getting some serious wear-time ... cost per wear must be getting pretty low! So cute with the blue.
Are you short? If you are, you are a well proportioned lady ... you look tallish to me!

It's nice to know where things come from, but not necessary. I don't notice when people don't say. I've been making a point of my pieces from the collaborations I'm interested in, but that's more about the designer than the store. Normally, I don't.
You should add the info if you think it matters. I'll be interested in what others have to say about this as well ...
    Have an excellent week!

    1. Thanks Jan...my dh didn't have a clue either, said he thought it was two matching pieces. Really? As to the belt and shoe thing...I think I wear that belt and shoe combo with everything. Seriously, all the time. too much probably. And short, yes I am. 5'3" is a stretch that I use to make my weight fit into the right bracket! LOL.

thanks for your vote too on links...

  7. Fabulous! And even better to accentuate your waist with a belt, I love that and it creates such a nice hourglass shape.

Yes, I frequently click on the links and I am also planning on a "similar here" alternative link if my clothes are no longer available. I find it very helpful.
On my current post I have also published a Polyvore collage (I love doing those sets!) with my clothes, accessories or matching stuff and again, readers can click on the items.

  8. Love the skirt/dress! That's one of my favorite color combinations, too. I appreciate knowing where to find the items -- I would love to try on that dress (it would definitely be too long as a skirt on "short me") to see if I could pull it off halfway as well as you did. Great spring/summer choice.

  10. What a great outfit! I have a similar maxi skirt that I use it as a dress all the time. I sometimes always wear a top over the the "dress" and belt it.

  11. The skirt looks great as a dress, especially with the contrasting band at the top. I remember doing something similar in my younger days when I wore it as a strapless dress. The wide, flowing hem looks so sexy with those sandals!

  12. I think maxi skirts as a dress is a great idea. I don't really have any but I have a midi length skirt that I have worn as a dress before (it wasn't too short). A blazer, cardigan, or jacket over it really dresses it up. Love your look! I always like to see where a blogger's stuff is from. I think it is a great way to find new pieces!

  13. Hey Alyssa, You look awesome, girl! Nothing like classic blue and white stripes with cognac brown leather. I love the idea of wearing a maxi as a dress. I'm only 5'2" on a good day, so a maxi would be miles too long for me too, but I'm curious if it feels comfortable, or is there the fear it will want to revert back to a skirt?

Pop me an email if you have any flower questions. I don't mind at all.
