Continuing the Denim Theme

We all know that I love me some Denim.  I wear it all the time, discuss why I always wear it, try to avoid wearing it to no avail and then continue to utilize and adore it.  But there is one trend with denim that I have been avoiding.

I have been very reluctant to jump on the Denim on Denim trend because "back in the day" ie. the 80s; we always referred to wearing denim on denim as a "denim tuxedo" or "denim leisure suit".  Please refer to the following two graphic examples of this horror.

Well Yippee Ky Ay, call me what you will but I am jumping on the double denim bandwagon (or should I say chuck-wagon?).  So long as your denim doesn't match exactly, these days you are safe and right on the money for the look.  Truthfully...Brit and JT could probably still get away with those looks today, but only because, well, they are them and not us.

So dare to double up your denim and see how much fun you can have trying to avoid references to cowboys, tuxedos and leisure suits.  Have fun!!

XO,
Alyssa

p.s.  how many times did I use the word Denim in one post?!  LOL

  1. Hey Alyssa, I so appreciate that you didn't refer to it as a Canadian tuxedo. Gak!

Yup, you've done double denim tastefully! Good on ya!

  3. I have yet to wear denim on denim. I agree if they are different colors - it's a do! Looking great as usual :)

  4. Glad to see you're still alive and well. I was beginning to get worried and was going to make the trek to the Anthem Outlet Stores and look you up. Why did you want to take a break from blogging? For the same reasons I'm struggling with it?? I don't want to get dressed up and have a photo taken (or if I'm already dressed up, I don't want to stop and take photos) so for the last two weeks I've done interior design posts and for tomorrow, I'm asking Ann, fellow blogger, to run her post instead. What gave you the push to get back in the game? I do look forward to seeing what you're up to and enjoy your fashion statements :) Love the denim on denim look and even like matching (of course) denim.

    1. Hi Heather, glad to see you too! (really, we should try to "see" each other for real) You are sweet to worry but fear not, my funk has lifted.

Why did I take my blogging break? A couple reasons, some of what you listed, but mostly my head just wasn't right. Poor food (and drink) choices led to weight gain which led to crankiness and not looking cute in my clothes. Who wants to take photos of themselves looking like crap?! LOL. It happens to me all the time, this downward spiral but the good news is I always come out of it eventually. Also, I was feeling like there are over 400 other over 40 bloggers out there (not to mention the thousands of under 40's) and I'm not really contributing anything new or ground breaking, or posting the most beautiful photos so, why bother?

Your photos always seem so much more involved than mine, so I can see how making that much of an effort would be grating after a while. I don't think you have to limit yourself to just the fashion posts...you have so much to offer beyond that so why limit yourself? Only take those fashion photos when you feel moved by your outfit genius to do so. Just my H.O.

Thank you for taking the time to write to me, I always love to hear from my friends! Get back in the game when it suits you, or not if you don't want to. That's what retirement should be about, right?

      xo,
      Alyssa
