Military Maybe

If you have ever looked on my boards at my favorite inspirational site Go Chic or Go Home, you know that a military jacket in classic Army green has been on my wish-list for about ever.  A few years ago, you couldn't go into a retailer and NOT find one of them.  A few years ago, I didn't see the full potential of such a jacket and so never bothered to pick one up.  Since becoming a devotee of the style blogs however, I now know just how versatile such a wardrobe item can be and I want one.

Impulse control is not my strong suit as you many know if you've been reading this blog for any length of time, so when I saw this shirt in our Men's clearance section the other day I was compelled to purchase it.  I had a reward from my brand credit card which meant that I paid $.97 for it.  I like a Men's shirt for the extra length it gives, and a size XS in our store is about the same as a Boy's XXL so it is NOT a huge fitting shirt on me.  I can do this because of my girth but other, smaller people would drown in it regardless.

My determination is that since I have yet to find a jacket that fits both my style and budgetary requirements, this shirt is going to fill that closet gap for a while.  Until my jacket finds me, which I know it will some day.

Do you like the look of the tough shirt atop the feminine print dress?  I really love it.  I'll like it even more when I take a moment to iron it.  My mother would be horrified.  I was NOT a fan of how long the skirt looked, coupled with the ankle cutting wedge heels.  So, not one to be deterred, I hiked up the skirt and ended up with...

this.  I like it better I think, but unless some pinning is involved, I doubt I could keep the skirt tucked for an entire day at work.  I will be on the lookout for a floral skirt come spring, that I can assure you.  Stay tuned for more looks with this shirt, I can tell you right now you will be seeing it again!!

XO,
Alyssa

* So...I totally photoshopped myself in all of these pictures.  I was so excited to have found this shirt, that I came home and took these pics without bothering to do makeup and the result was not pretty.  Rather than chop off my head as I usually do when that happens, I went to iPiccy to play around.  This is the result of my quick attempt at coverup.  Just don't zoom in.  LOL

  2. Hi Alyssa,
I like the shortened skirt. (You should always show your legs, they are fantastic!) Men's department oxfords are a secret that should be shared. I love the added length of the shirt; if it is untucked, my backside is covered. That's a win in my book.
Thought you'd like to know, I bought my military jacket from H&M. Do you have one near you? I believe it wasn't that expensive.
    Like the tough vs pretty!

  4. That shirt is perfect! And I love the skirt shortened. :) I found my cargo jacket at the thrift store for about $6 - and it's gap. I wear men's shirts with leggings all the time. They actually button over my bosom and are long enough to cover my bum. :) Of course, those looks rarely make it on to the Blog. :)

  5. Wow, you can really wear this khaki colour. The skirt is a great go-with. It pops, and the overall look is so fresh and flirty. And Yes, the shorter length is perfect for you. It will be fun to see your shirt styled in different ways.

Have you checked the new H&M "Cargo Glamour" collection? They offer a khaki military jacket and also ZARA has got one or two.
