If Denim Didn't Exist

Let's face it, if denim didn't exist as a wardrobe staple I would be both out of a job and a lot less enthusiastic about getting dressed in the morning.

I can whine all I want to about always including it in my outfits but if I REALLY had to go for any length of time without it I would be hard pressed to come up with too many options that work for my day to day life.  I gave it a shot this week and after 3 days I was done.

My life, apparently, revolves around my denim.  And I have decided that that is OK by me.  I might play dress up for you every now and then, I got some great ideas in the comments last week (thanks for those...Annette, Monica, Heather, et al).  But more often then not, you will see me include some form denim in my outfits.

I know that's OK with you guys, because you rock.

XO,
Alyssa

  1. You do know, don't you, that you are one of the sources we turn to for ideas on how to style denim, yes? Since you do it so well ... and you do ... then you should continue to do it. A woman I admire (and one seen in denim a LOT)wisely opined, “Fashion is what you’re offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose.”

So, you're another American Classic, specializing in that most American of fabrics.
IMHO, anyway. Who knows what focus you'll choose next?

In fact, I'm changing the pants I was going to wear today to denim. In your honor.

    Seriously.

  2. And, I'm going to wear my Ikat print top, 'cause yours looks so pretty here. And some purple.

  3. Alyssa, it is most important that you feel comfortable in your style.
Today I saw a gorgeous outfit on One Chic Mom which combines a dressy and a casual look. Maybe something similar would work for you?

  4. Have you been to my blog lately? What's almost always on my lower half? Jeans. I can't help it .. it's a clothing article that fits the best for my shape.

I think you look great. I love the purple top with your (almost looks) olive pants. I'll have to give this a try .. olive or army green pants are so hard for me to style.

  6. Hey! Sorry I have been absent for so long. You look fab in whatever you wear. I too live in denim a large part of the year. I love that what you wear in real life is what you show on your blog. I have come to the realization that a lot of people dress for the blog and not life. I know I have been guilty of that myself and have decided that I won't do that from now on (once I get back to blogging that is.) So hooray for you for realizing what works for you and looking great too!

  7. I would like to copy and paste what Jan wrote, including the cyber hug. (I never knew a cyber hug existed until now. You gotta love Jan!)

Denim rocks as do you, not as eloquent as the other comments, but heartfelt :)

  8. I would call this honing in on your fashion style. If you know it works well for you then I see nothing wrong with that! I personally struggle with jeans - there are just too many cuts for me to know what fits me the best.

  9. Alyssa, I love your style. You always look so fresh and youthful. I don't know how you do it in the heat. So I say, just keep on, keeping on!
