Gettin' Dressy With It

I think I have bargain hunter's remorse.  I bought a little dress at Ross a while ago because it was less than $10.  At the time of the purchase, I had it in my head that I needed to add more solids to my wardrobe since I am a print girl at heart and my closet is sadly lacking in neutral solids.  This dress is not neutral.  This dress is not particularly flattering on my chesty frame.  This dress was less than $10.  With that being said, here are two of the options I came up with for it.

At least I got to wear some amazing shoes.  What do you think?  Are you the kind of bargain hunter who would keep the dress because it was a steal, or would you return it and get something better for your money?

I kept it.  I wore the bottom look for Easter Dinner (which I hosted and cooked for...in those heels!)  I will probably wear it at some point with the leopard accessories as well, because it was OK as an outfit.  Not super spectacular, but OK.  Breaking that down...cost per wear at less than $5, and if I get a 3rd outfit out of it...that's a cpw of $3.33.  Alright, I'm not so remorseful any longer.

XO,
Alyssa

  1. I like it - the color is bold but very flattering and the shape is great for changing things up. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday!

  2. I'm thinking you look really spectacular in both looks! Love the sheerness of the sleeves and the color is wonderful on you. And you look really "leggy" with the nude-colored heels. You made the right decision to keep the dress!

  5. Hey Alyssa, this dress is a spectacular shade of blue! A perfect colour for you! Now, I get a little nervous when bloggers ask 'What do you think?'. I really like the dress in your second look...the necklace the shoes, your gorgeous hair, and to be completely honest, the angle of the shot. But in the first photo where you are facing more directly to the camera, I have to say I am in agreement with you that the cut of the top piece is not the best for you. I think this design line is not that easy for a lot of us to wear. Also, you always do such a fabulous job with layering...either a denim jacket, a sweater, a scarf, even another shirt, and I see that as your signature look. I think that may be partly why I see this dress as a little off. With this type of design line, it's much more difficult to work your layering magic. So pretty dress, but I don't see as much Alyssa as in other outfits. Do I make any sense?

    1. Sue...Fear not, I ask because I LIKE to hear what you have to say! Layering is part of my job, so that's probably why you associate it with my looks...part of the dress code and all. Its fun to do something a little different now and again though, so that's why this outfit was so fun for me.

  7. Like it so much better with the heels, and especially with the necklace. Probably not your most flattering look ... but the color is grand on you. Frankly, I don't think this style of dress flatters anyone, therefore, and IMHO, it is the dress and not you. Your legs look 800 miles long with the heels, so maybe it's a keeper. I can imagine it would be very, very easy to wear for an occasion in the worst heat of summer. Keep it for a while, perhaps, then if you don't fall in love with it ultimately, it might make a great consignment piece. I have had some great loves I didn't like in the first place ... but not many.
Regardless, the dress is lucky to have you wearing it!

    1. Thanks Jan, you know I love your input!

Want to know something funny? The heels picture was my "most repinned" outfit that week (meaning like 2 other people repinned it lol)
