Oh How I Love Thee

This is my profile picture on Go Chic or Go Home.
Have you ever found something online that was so helpful, you don't know what you ever did before you found it?  That is kind of how I'm feeling today about Go Chic or Go Home.  Many of you are already members, but if you don't know what GCOGH is yet, I hope you will go check it out IMMEDIATELY.  In the words of creators Cynthia and Robert Brown,  "Go Chic or Go Home is a friendly and down-to-earth style community that offers everything you need to make the most of your daily wardrobe.  Find outfit inspiration, post your own outfits for reference, and use the virtual closet to create ensembles with your own clothes. Members can also earn points towards shopping gift cards or charitable contributions."

I am about to wax poetic about how it works for me, so if you want a peek into my closet, keep reading.

If I had to briefly sum up its awesomeness, I would say that GCOGH is both an online virtual closet and invitation only community of people looking to find sartorial inspiration from within their own pieces and from other, like minded souls. Audrey from Putting Me Together posted a very detailed and helpful introduction to the site, so please see Audrey's Post about using GCOGH to its fullest potential.

My personal obsession with the site has become so great, that I can no longer bring home new items without immediately shooting pictures of them, uploading them to my "my clothes" board and initiating an ensemble making frenzy.

Here are the clothes I added today
I want to ensure that each new piece I am adding to my wardrobe will function in multiple ways and work with many of my existing pieces.  A lot of people can do this just by walking into their closet, but for me it is so much easier to see complete looks when all my pieces are "virtually" right in front of me.

A few of today's ensembles

I will admit that the initial investment of time to shoot pictures of your WHOLE wardrobe is daunting, but the reward for that effort has been priceless.  I have been able to create outfits that before I never would have imagined.  I chose to shoot my photos in batches, doing just pants or just sweaters thereby spreading the job over several days and making it easier to accomplish getting my entire wardrobe included.  The process of choosing clothes to photograph for my virtual closet also helped me to clean out the unused, unworn, damaged, or out of style items that I had been holding onto.  Double bonus!!

In addition to having my virtual closet to play in, I have been introduced to so many fantastic, creative, and supportive women.  Some are bloggers as well, but many are just average women from all over the world who are looking to enhance or redefine their personal style.  As I come to know these women, through their style, the images that they present as "liked outfits", the bloggers they are following and the kind and helpful comments they make on my images and others, it has become apparent that GCOGH is filling a void in the virtual landscape.  It provides multiple platforms for expression and also has a shopping tool attached so members can link to associated retailers (such as GAP, Banana Republic, ASOS, ModCloth, JCrew and a slew more) for discounts and purchases to help fill in their closet gaps.

So are you ready to be amazed by your own clothes?  Get your camera ready and go play at GCOGH today.  Give me your email address and I will send you an invitation, or go to the site directly to request one today!!!  You can "follow" me there, see my entire closet and all my ensembles...no doubt you'll see things you will recognize and get a sneak peak at future posts!  I really hope to see you all there.

XO,
Alyssa

  1. Love, clean and classic new bloggy format!
This looks tons of fun, but I wonder if I could even do it justice. I haven't finished answering comments from VM and already have to think of another thing for Monday ... weekend at work, etc. Let us all know how it goes, yes?
We can count on you for invite, yes?

You look pretty fabulous, BTW. All these pics look like everyone is young and gorgeous. Intimidating. Is that right or do they just put the best of you up for display?

Regardless ... very cool and brave of you to join. I'm impressed. But nor surprised!
    Have a great week ...

  2. Of course I will invite you Jan...send me your email! And don't be intimidated by that monocle page...that isn't what you see when you really get on the site. Most of those are curated images from around the web showing the best examples of the current theme...blazers this month for example.

As to having time to do it...you never have to post a thing if you don't want to, just browse what others have done. I really do make my everyday outfits using my virtual closet though, so I personally think it was worth my time. I have been using GCOGH longer than I have been blogging!

  3. I love this site, but don't use it to it's true potential. I started up loading individual pieces, but quickly gave that up as I realized that I need to touch the items to put together an outfit. I see all this polyvore things and my brain just doesn't connect. I pin more inspirations on PInterest that are all real bodies, too... I do add to a board titled Liked Outfits (then a season) inspirational color combos that I want to refer back to for inspiration. I envy those of you who use this site to it's maximum and reap the benefits!

    1. Isn't it funny how everyone's brain works differently? I can't do polyvore because the options are so massive. With the virtual closet though, it's all my own stuff so I can easily zero in on pieces I want to use. I think it's just when I am in my closet, only certain things are there, and only my favorite things jump out at me, KWIM? Don't even get me started on "The Pinterest"....half of my pins are of these gorgeous, thin women so I can't decide if its really the outfit I love, or that I want to have their tiny body!! Lol

  5. I've never heard of it - I'll go check it out this evening - but it sounds pretty cool. I do worry about having one more site that I could get addicted to!

    1. What do you think Val? Something do-able or too much work? I would imagine you have no problem reimagining your wardrobe without the virtual factor that I seem to require!

    1. Awesome Heather....I have to say that I wouldn't want to be the one who had to photograph YOUR wardrobe because you have such great and abundant stuff!! LOL

    2. Hello again,
May need your help with getting into this. Nobody has responded to my request for an invitation yet so maybe it would be helpful if you requested an invitation for me?? Let me know if you think that would work better (or faster), okay? Maybe having to photograph my stuff would help me decide what I really want to keep!
      Thanks!
      Heather
