Singing the Blues Again...the Navy Blues

Sometimes a wardrobe piece comes into your life that you weren't especially looking for but blossoms into one of your most used items.

No, it is not the polka dot shorts because they are a post unto themselves.  I recently bought this navy tank top from my store (Gap Factory Store if anyone doesn't know "my" store) and I think I have worn it a dozen times already.   It has become my new closet staple and I had to feature it this week because all my outfit photos seem to be in this shirt!

We just got back from a little staycation we took in Scottsdale, and this was my Brunch and Bicycling outfit.  Pretty view from our deck, huh?  While we were only gone for 4 days...I did manage to wear this shirt twice!  LOL  So stay tuned for two more outfits this week featuring my new navy tank, and I am sure I have a hundred other ways to wear it in the near future.

I never even knew my wardrobe was missing a plain navy layering piece until I had one.  Keep your eyes open for YOUR next mystery closet staple, you never know what it may turn out to be!

XO,
Alyssa

  1. Cute cute cute! I don't own a navy tank but I'll be sure to look for one next time I'm shopping.
We'll be coming out to Scottsdale in July. I hear it's going to be unbearably hot there. Any tips??

    1. Thank you J!

Tips for July visit to AZ, absolutely! Use a bucket of sunscreen every day. Trust me, even my Itialian skin burns in a short amount of time here. Although it seems weird, make sure you bring layering pieces. Every restaurant and indoor facility blasts their air to minus 100 so you will need it! And believe it or not, long sleeved, light weight tops are better than sleeveless or short sleeves because it keeps the sun off your skin. Do your outdoor activities in the early part of the day...our hottest time of day is around 3pm when all the rocks have absorbed heat all day long. Lastly, NEVER go barefoot by the pool! Bring rubber flip flops that can get wet because you will literally (I hate that word but it is true) scald your feet if you walk barefoot on any pool surface.

And of course....I'll gladly meet you for dinner! LOL

    1. Thank you Sue! This color combo is my new favorite...almost edging out the navy/emerald I have been in love with all winter.

Warm and Dry are it for sure! I do miss lush and green though.

  3. The navy tank looks great, Alyssa. I have one and you're inspiring me to put it to use as part of an outfit. Love that cardi too. Scottsdale looks beautiful. I love little getaways.

    1. YES!!! Although, I bought a navy skirt last summer that still has tags on it because I can't figure out what to do with it. Send me some inspiration?!

  6. I'm following you around this year! Been looking for navy as I've been in admiration of your navy plus orange palettes. (My husband is in hog heaven ... his favorite color is orange. I'm still surprised at his trust levels that he would admit that to me. Orange? ) I've come upon a pair of navy ankle pants that are functioning like your top. I hope they last the season!
You look beautiful and happy on your staycation. What a view from your deck! Enjoy!

    1. Right? Really though, can you name a color Navy looks bad with? Its hard to come up with one. Perhaps violet and navy aren't great but everything else is fair game and I'm sure someone creative (such as yourself) could make even that work! Can't wait to see your pants!

  7. P.S. If you wear that very cute necklace again for photos, can you move in on it a little? I'd love to see it up close, or just closer! Very cool with your other stuff!
    Thanks in advance,

    1. yep...will do. It is a true trial to have my hubby take photos of me as he is inept at technology and has NO eye for photography. I get better results if my 11 year old does it for me. Alas, I despise posing for the camera (not that you could ever tell that since I have a FREEKING BLOG) so two shots is my limit! ;o)

  9. That's fabulous, Alyssa! The colour combination suits you really well and I love how you bring everything together with your lovely necklace. Agree with Jan, a close up would be nice.

Your hair looks great and shiny as always.

  10. Hi Alyssa,
Catching up on my blog reading today (while I'm supposed to be working..shhh...don't tell anyone). Trying to identify where you were in Scottsdale...looks like the Boulders? Anway, you look wonderful. Just bought a navy and white polka dot tank so I'm hoping I can get the same level of use out of it.

    1. Heather...I am Marriott girl, so we always try to stay at a JW resort. This time it was the Camelback Inn. It is a really old hotel and needs a bunch of TLC, but is has a great garden and you can't beat the location! Have you been?
